The first hours decide who else sees it
Publishing time works by getting watch data early, which is what YouTube uses to decide who to show it to next. That is also the only honest use of a paid push: a bigger first day on a video that already earns it.
Why the generic answer is worth so little here
Every article on this gives you the same grid of hours, copied from studies of a few hundred thousand uploads, mostly American, mostly from channels nothing like yours. On YouTube that advice is weaker than anywhere else, and the reason is structural.
YouTube is a search and recommendation engine, not a feed. A video keeps being suggested for months, sometimes years. Uploading an hour later does not lose you the audience the way it does on a timeline that scrolls past. What the hour genuinely buys is the first few hours of watch data, which is the signal YouTube uses to decide who else to show it to. That is worth something. It is not the video's fate.

⚠️ That is a starting point for a channel with no data of its own, not a schedule. The windows are wide, the studies disagree with each other, and none of them knows where your audience lives. Once you have twenty or so uploads, the table this tool builds from your own channel beats all of it.
What the tool does differently
- Shorts are kept separate. YouTube distributes them through a different surface, and a channel that posts Shorts in the morning and long videos at night would otherwise get an “best hour” that is really just “when you post Shorts”.
- It refuses to answer on a thin sample. Below ten usable videos, or without at least two in the same block, there is no best hour, there are coincidences. The page says so instead of naming one.
- It shows the counts next to every row, so you can see which lines are built on one video and discount them yourself.
What moves views more than the hour
- The title and thumbnail. They decide whether the impression becomes a click, and nothing else is close.
- The first thirty seconds. They decide whether the click becomes watch time, which is what the recommendation runs on.
- Whether the subject is searched for. A good video about something nobody looks for stays small at any hour.
- Then the upload time. Genuinely fourth. If your table comes out flat, that is a real result and it means look at the three above.

For a channel with no history, early afternoon on weekdays and mid-morning at weekends, in your audience's timezone, are the windows that come up most often. For a channel with twenty or more uploads, its own data beats any general table, which is what the tool above computes.
Does upload time really matter on YouTube?
Less than on any other platform. YouTube keeps recommending a video for months, so the hour affects the first burst of watch data rather than the video's total reach.
How many videos does it need?
About ten usable ones, with at least two in the same time block. Below that it tells you the sample is too thin instead of naming an hour, because you would be reading luck.
Which timezone does it use?
Your device's, and it names it above the table. The timezone that actually matters is your audience's, and YouTube Studio shows you where they are.
Does it work on someone else's channel?
Yes, any public channel. Seeing when a competitor publishes, and how it went for them, is often more useful than a chart written for everybody.
Are Shorts included?
They are read but kept separate. Mixing Shorts and long videos produces a median that describes neither, and it would skew the best hour towards whenever you happen to post Shorts.
